Ed Dunkelblau

Dr. Ed Dunkelblau is Director of the Institute for Emotionally Intelligent Learning and is an internationally known speaker and consultant on the topics of Social Emotional Learning, Safe Schools programming and Humor in Education.

He has numerous publications including the Social Emotional and Character Development reference guide and has been an organizational consultant to dozens of schools, districts, State boards of education and corporations. He is the International Coordinator for the Academy for Social Emotional Learning in Schools and is a founding board member of the National Coalition for Safe Schools.
His work has been featured in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, USA Today, on NPR and CNN.

His awards include Alumnus of the year award from Columbia University Teachers College, the Distinguished Alumni award from the University of Kansas and the Lifetime Achievement Award for Applied Humor from the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor. Despite all of this, his father never really understood what he did!

With the challenges of political upheaval, the influence of social media and the need to make healthy choices, our children must be prepared for the future. What would happen if your children completed school with only a limited grasp of empathy, limited ability to manage their impulses, lacking the ability to listen carefully to others, and an impaired capability of making healthy, ethical decisions? Are your teachers able to build essential social-emotional competencies in your students? Are you sure? This presentation will address the necessity and action plans that will prepare teachers and other educators to meet these important tasks.

In times of challenge and stress, it’s natural for parents to doubt their own parenting abilities and become more anxious, restrictive, and intrusive. Sometimes in high stress times, a parent's sense of humor goes into hiding. The world-wide mental health crisis we are seeing among youth today is due to these reactions in our families and our schools.
There is a way out and that is to foster greater trust, collaborative problem solving, creativity, and reducing stress through humor. In this workshop, we will show you how to accomplish this - whether in your own household or with parents you encounter professionally.
